The companies of IPM Group, Marina Port de Mallorca, Marina Palma Cuarentena, STP Shipyard Palma, Marina Ibiza, Varadero Ibiza and Varadero Valencia, have launched a campaign called Plastic Free to reduce the presence of single-use plastics in their facilities. In addition, this campaign also aims to make its customer’s aware of all the risks and dangers of throwing plastics into the sea with the intention of promoting respect for the environment and all marine fauna currently in danger.
STP Shipyard Palma and Marina Port de Mallorca have eliminated single-use plastic water bottles from their facilities, replacing them with stainless steel bottles that have been delivered to all workers so they can drink water without generating plastic waste. At the same time, the plastic water cups have been replaced by recyclable cardboard cups at the water dispensers in the receptions. In this way, customers will not generate waste when consuming water.
In addition, Marina Port de Mallorca, Marina Palma Cuarentena, Marina Ibiza and Varadero Ibiza have information panels located at various strategic points of their pontoons to publicise the serious problem of plastic in the sea, due to its contamination causing damage to the marine species that consume this material mistaking if for food as well as those trapped by large pieces of plastic and netting which float in the water. Following the same objective of reducing the amount of plastics that enter the sea, the marinas offer free recycling and separation bags to their customers so that they can recycle on board their yacht and deposit the waste on arrival at port at the green points of the marinas.
Another of the actions that were carried out recently with the intention of cleaning the sea of plastics was the introduction of a Seabin in Marina Port de Mallorca, a floating wastebasket that collects the plastics and microplastics from the water mirror of the port, preventing them going into the open sea.
IPM Group companies have been working actively for years to reduce their impact on the environment and to continue with this commitment to preserve the environment. The Plastic Free campaign is already having a great acceptance among customers and employees and the Group expects in a short period of time to get rid of 100% of all the plastic around it.
